It will perhaps be tainted by events outside her control, but Friday was nonetheless a memorable day for Director of Public Prosecutions Cheryl-Lynn Vidal, who along with attorneys Jacqueline Marshalleck and Magali Marin-Young was elevated to Senior Counsel of the Bar.
The ceremony took place before Chief Justice Kenneth Benjamin this morning. He had earlier announced the honor during his address to open the 2014 legal year.
DPP Vidal has been serving in that office for more than a decade and ascended to the top post some four years ago.
The office is widely reported as having a rate of conviction for criminal offences as low as 3%, but is of course, may be hamstrung by resources and the smart work by defense attorneys.
Ms. Marin-Young is in private practice as is Marshalleck, who is a former president of the Bar Association.
