This past weekend there were two traffic accidents in the same neighborhood of Belize City. Fortunately, neither was serious. According to residents of the Pickstock Street area around 10:00 Friday night, a white Toyota Hilux vehicle was being driven by two Caucasian men who appeared to be heavily intoxicated. Predictably, the vehicle ran off the road on Pickstock Street into a drain, narrowly avoiding a crash into the lower flat of a family residence. Police were called and they worked with residents to remove the vehicle from the drain; however, residents complained that police did not take the drunken pair into custody, but handed them their keys and sent them on their way. The second incident took place on Sunday morning around 1:00 a.m. when a white pickup being driven by two persons lost control in the North Front Street area and flipped over, landing against a lamppost and in fact bringing it down, causing damage to electrical wires. Neither occupant was seriously injured but the vehicle was severely damaged. A tow truck removed the vehicle from the area about six hours later.
