Dwight Tillett officially launched his campaign for standard bearer for Belize Rural North under the UDP banner. Tillett is hoping to beat out two time area representative Edmund Castro at a UDP convention to represent the party in the next general elections. Interestingly, Tillett was campaign manager for Edmund Castro, but he said he made the decision to run for electoral politics and hopefully replace Castro, after the famous BBA checks that Castro had signed over to himself and his family members.
“These things we may think are the responsibility of home owners and families and to a certain extent, they are, but they need the support and the encouragement of an Area Representative who is focus, who is keen and focused on ensuring that the things people need to get started are there for them so that they can eventually become independent of Area Representatives and politicians. I don’t intend, as an Area Representative to have to have people come to a clinic on their knees… Wednesday after Wednesday, or however you call it. I want to empower our people so they do not have to beg anybody and if we do the things that will bring jobs to our area, we will not have to beg. We expect a though fight. We are doing the works that are necessary, we are putting in ground work and we smell victory… but let’s ensure it you who are workers here today. Today I commit to making a difference and I ask the people of Belize Rural North to give me the opportunity to do so. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for coming and sharing these special moments with us. God Bless you and God Bless Belize.
Tillett received an endorsement from former Area Representative Samuel Rhaburn and current Belize City Mayor Darrell Bradley.
“Know that Dwight Tillett is here because his heart is in the right place and he means well for the people of his community and my gosh, if that is not something that we should not honor and defend, I don’t know what is. I can tell you ladies and gentlemen, that Dwight Tillett is standing up for you and I am asking you this morning to stand up for him. To stand with him, to stand shoulder to shoulder for a better leader and for a better Belize Rural North. When I think about the character and the heart of those people, I think about somebody like Mr. Rhaburn, I think about somebody like Dwight. Somebody in that room when you are making those decisions, who there only motivation will be what is the best for people in my community. That is something that must be honored. That is something that must be respected and that is something that is a hope for not only Belize Rural North, but for every single area through this country. We want people to stand up for courage and righteousness and principle for the betterment of our people and for our community. So this morning, I am very pleased, proud, humble and honored to give my 100% support and endorsement for Dwight Tillett.
Samuel Rhaburn – Retired Area Representative, Belize Rural North
“No longer can the function of an Area Representative be reduced to that 9of dispensing favors or giving hands out. The duties of the Area Representative must be one that provides one the confidence and the respect of the people of the constituency. The Area Representative must be a man with credibility. The Area Representative must be a person who stands for values, family values among other things. This morning, it is my please and my distinct privilege to ask the voters of Belize Rural North, to give everything in support of Mr. Dwight Tillett, a native son of Belize Rural North. I say, let’s do it right with Dwight.”
The UDP convention for Belize Rural North is slated for Sunday, May 31.
