Echeverria arraigned for murder

Wilser Echeverria, accused murderer of 64 year old Panamanian diplomat Jose Rodriguez De La Rosa, was arraigned in court On Thursday.

On November 26th Belmopan police took 18 year old Echeverria, of Salvapan area, Belmopan, to have him arraigned on charges of murder. However a problem arose because police had not received a written directive from the office of the DPP to proceed with the arraignment, as is required by law for an indictable matter in which the accused alleges self defence.  Instead, the following day, Welser Echeverria was charged for theft and arraigned at the Belmopan Magistrate’s court.

On Thursday, having gotten the written directive from the DPP, police proceeded to charge Wilser Echeverria for the murder of Jose Rodriguez De La Rosa. Mr Echeverria appeared in court before Magistrate Hetteimae Stewart at around 2:00 pm on Thursday, where he was accompanied by paralegal, Michelle Zuniga. After his charge was read, Echeverria was remanded to prison without bail.

The case resumes on January 27th 2015 at the Supreme Court in Belmopan, where he is to be represented by Defense Attorney Dickie Bradley.
