According to Barry Blaney’s neighbours and friends, Mr Blaney was a poor, humble man and had no known enemies.  The 76 year old lived in a dilapidated wooden house and ran a little shop, which barely made him enough money to keep him sustained. It is reported that one of his neighbours went to purchase some groceries from him early yesterday morning. When she didn’t find him at his shop, she went to look for him in his house, which lies adjacent to the shop.

There is where she discovered the lifeless body of Barry Blaney. According to the neighbor’s report, Blaney was lying face down on the bed, with his hands and feet tied, and his face covered with the bed sheet. The cause of death is not yet known, however, it is speculated that the murder happened sometime during Tuesday night. Steve Periotte, former vice-chair of Crooked Tree, told the media that the residents of Crooked Tree need to start acting against crimes like these and said that with the launching of the new Crooked Tree police station, he is hoping that a neighbourhood watch system can be implemented in the community.  Several young men from the area have been detained for questioning by the police.
