Eleven Indian nationals were charged in the Belmopan Magistrate’s Court today, for illegal entry into the country. The men were caught by Police on Wednesday night heading north. Information is that they were intercepted in the Spanish Lookout Area. Found in their possession were presumably legitimate travel documents, but because they were suspected of entering the country illegally, by way of the western border with Guatemala, they were apprehended by authorities. They are Montukumar Patel, Sarajit Singh, Gobinder Singh, Pragneshkumar Patel, Jasbir Singh, Naitik Patel, Hitesh Jani, Jastreet Singh, Prakashkumar Patel and two minors. Plus News understands that most of them are students, while others are production managers and agricultural personnel. They have been charged with entering Belize elsewhere than that of an approved base of entry. The group will spend the weekend at the Kolbe Foundation and will return to court on Monday for arraignment. Meanwhile, one Belizean, Clifton Hyde, a driver for the British High Commission, has been charged with aiding the illegal immigrants. Hyde was found in the company of the men on Wednesday night. It was reported that two other Belizeans, a BDF and a Police Officer, were also being looked at in connection with the bust, but so far no charges have been brought against those men. It is believed that the group of Indian nationals was on its way to the US.
