Employer Can’t Pay Social Security

vlcsnap-2014-04-03-20h15m11s204Social Security contributions are typically paid jointly by employers and employees to ensure maximum coverage.

But business is reportedly so terrible for one Albert Street businessman that he could not pay what was owed for four employees from August of 2013 to January of 2014 – and it is not the first time.

45 year old Jose Gomez owns Belize Logistics Services Limited on Albert Street and he told Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer that his business has declined almost to the point of bankruptcy.

He pleaded guilty to failure to make Social Security payment contributions and was fined $500, to be paid by May 31, in default 5 months’ imprisonment.  He was also ordered to clear up the outstanding payments, otherwise he would face more jail time.
