After a break of a few weeks, there is a murder to report in Belize City, which took place over the weekend.
The victim is 40 year old Ernel Kenroy Young, residing on Casuarina Street.
According to police Ernel Young was seen motion less lying face up, on a bed inside a bedroom at the residence, the body displaying an apparent gunshot wound to the center of the forehead.
We are told that area residents did not hear any noise or commotion, and believe the killer or killers may have used a silencer or muffler to mask the gunshot.
Ernel Young was found by a family member who had gone out on an errand for him in the morning. His family have declined interviews with the press.
Ernel Young had two widely-reported brushes with the law. Under the name Ernel Welcome, he was accused of the death of multi-million dollar heiress Therese Blake in October of 2000. She had been abducted from her home on Newtown Barracks after picking up her children from school and was shot to death in the getaway vehicle down the street after it collided with another vehicle. Justice Troadio Gonzalez directed the jury to find him not guilty because of a lack of sufficient evidence and he was set free, but that was not his last brush with the law.
In July of 2007, then-deputy commander of Eastern Division Chester Williams pursued a black pickup on the Philip Goldson Highway until it was stopped by colleagues at a checkpoint. Ernel Welcome was found along with two other men and a firearm in the vehicle between the two seats. Chester Williams, at the time, noted that he was known to be a drug peddler.
