Fatal Traffic Accident in Spanish Lookout

San Ignacio Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident that occurred in an area on Center Road, Spanish Lookout Community.

Police visted the scene at around 2:00 pm on Tuesday September 30th , where they saw a white Toyota Pickup with Guatemala license plates parked at the entrance to Western Diaries, with a dent on its passenger side. 10 feet away police observed a blue Meilun scooter lying almost in the middle of Center Road.

Initial police investigations revealed that around 1:00 pm, an hour before police arrived at the scene, the white Toyota pickup, driven at the time by Oscar Perez Sr. of Benque Viejo Town, Cayo, was exiting the parking lot when the motorcycle coming from a north to south direction collided into its right passenger’s side. As a result, the driver of the motorcycle, identified as 23 year old Heber Flores of Santa Elena Town, was flung from the motorcycle. Mr Flores received serious head and body injuries, and was rendered unconscious. He was immediately rushed to the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan, and later transported to the Karl Huesner Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. His body lies at the morgue awaiting a post mortem examination.

Oscar Perez Sr. has since been served with the following charges: failure to give way when changing direction, driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention, man slaughter by negligence, and causing death by careless conduct. He was offered bail in the sum of $8,000 dollars.
