Player Deon McCaley has scored his way into the big leagues. He signed a contract with professional football club Atlantic Silverbacks in Atlanta Georgia officially making him the first Belizean to ever sign a professional football club in the U.S.A. He is scheduled to start training on Saturday, March first.
Our colleagues at Krem TV spoke with the proud father of Deon McCauley, who says this seems like a great achievement, it is only a mere stepping stone that will lead to something greater.
“It is a great feeling; a stepping stone to something greater. I feel good”.
Reporter: “As a star player yourself, do you think your son makes you stand out as a star?’
Mr. David McCauley: “Well, it is a lotta tings because it’s a dedication, focus and love fih dih game, and he put in the work. That to me is enough to be so successful”.
Reporter: “When you dropped off Deon on Sunday, what were his thoughts and sentiments?”
Mr. David McCauley: “Well, his sentiment was, it is now for him to go and show out, you know, the country that he is capable of being out there. Anyting pasibl; wateva e put in, you goinu get out. So, youths out there who tinks that football won’t take you nowhere, it’s got somewhere to take you and Deon is showing that”.
We congratulate McCauley and wish him the best in his promising career.
