Female football team gets assistance from DFC

Gentle Touch is a female football team that was birthed in Esperanza village in the Cayo District. The team started small, comprising only of family members from the Gentle clan, but has since grown significantly and has earned recognition as a reputable team in the Belize football club. And today the team formed a momentous partnership with the Development Finance Cooperation of Belize. As a part of the partnership, the DFC donated a sum of $6,000 to the Gentle Touch Female Football team and the team will now sport the DFC colors as well as their logo. Norman Garcia is the Manager of Marketing and Communications at the DCF.

Norman Garcia – DFC Marketing & Communications Manager:
vlcsnap-2013-04-04-19h42m27s99While we are a business, it’s not always just about business, and this is a way to give back to the community. And what better way than with a female football team, who has shown great track record, with what they’re doing in terms of winning. We want to continue their tradition with them.  So they have agreed to carry our logo, wear our colours, and bring home the trophy, through the Football Federation of Belize.
We look forward to seeing the games being played, supporting the team, and we ask that the surrounding communities come out and support the team.

This is certainly a profitable joint venture for both the DFC and the Gentle Touch Team and Manager of the team, Kennedy Gentle Jr., shared on just how beneficial it will be for his squad. He also spoke about the team’s accomplishments so far.

Kennedy Gentle Sr – Manager Gentle Touch:
vlcsnap-2013-04-04-19h42m45s26First of all I’d like to say it’s an honour to be partnering with the DFC.  This for sure is a big help because we’ve been together for the past 9 years struggling.  It has been a bumpy road, but this will take us a long way.  Within 9 years we’ve had 9 championships in Cayo, undefeated for 9 years in a row, and District Championship, and five National Championships. We’re looking forward to our sixth Championship this year.

So what preparations have the team been undergoing in order to win that sixth championship? Gentle told us.

Kennedy Gentle Sr – Manager Gentle Touch:
We are presently waiting for a word from the FFB for the competition to start.  It should be sometime in the early part of this month, we understand. We have been training.  Gentle Touch keeps on training.  In fact we’re having a practice match in Belmopan. We’ve been invited to a family day by the British High [Commission}. So we’re training.  We do a lot of practice matches. But we’re keeping in shape.
