Financial Intelligence Unit Appoints a New Director

vlcsnap-2014-01-08-19h26m56s54vlcsnap-2014-01-08-20h25m52s74The Financial Intelligent Unit has appointed a new Director.  Mrs. Marilyn Williams gave notice in September of last year that she would not be applying for a renewal of her contract, which was due to expire on the 31st December 2013.

Williams says she will pursue private practice.  Eric Eusey, former Commissioner of Income Tax, takes over as the Director; his appointment took effect on January 1st.

The FIU is the body tasked with investigating and prosecuting financial crimes with particular reference to crimes relating to money laundering and terrorist financing.  The most prominent incidents in recent memory being the Jose Coye money laundering case and the dilemma of alleged corruption involving passports and visas at the Ministry of Immigration.
