20 year old Boyd Lopez is lucky to be home and not behind bars after he was sentenced today for the February 18, 2015 fatal traffic accident that took the life of 70 year old Senior Citizen, Marie Knowles. Knowles was walking on the side walk on Baghdad Street when Boyd, who had no licence to drive, was travelling in a black a Toyota High Lander Sport Utility vehicle travelling in the opposite direction from Knowles, when he ran over her and ended up dragging her body to some extent. Knowles sustained several injuries including injuries to her forehead, a broken ribs and broken legs with bruises to her limbs. The forensic examiner ruled her death to be the cause of traumatic shock. Today at his sentencing, Lopez was imposed a non-custodial sentence where Justice Adolph Lucas ordered him to pay a fine of $5,000, ordering him to pay $1,000 of the fine now, and the balance of $4,000 by May 17, 2017 in default one year imprisonment. No compensation was order for Lopez to pay today by Judge Lucas. We were told that is because Lopez presently has a civil suit case against him that is active in the court. Yesterday Judge Lucas heard mitigation plea on behalf of Lopez before imposing the fine.
