There was a fire in Cuello’s Alley, also known as Lightburn Alley, this afternoon in Belize City. Initial reports were that quick response led to only two families being affected in what is otherwise known to be a very congested area. The building affected was a green two story building and according to fire chief of the National Fire Service , Ted Smith, no one was injured.
Ted Smith, Fire Chieft, BNFS: The Fire Department received and responded to a structural fire in Cuellos Alley. On arrival at number 17B, heavy black smoke was seen coming from the upper flat. The department immediately went into operation, contained the fire, and extinguished the fire but not before heavy fire damage was done to the rear section. This structure is a 2 story structure, what you would called a Town House. The rear and the up is used as one apartment, and the front section is used as another apartment, two bedroom upstairs and two downstairs. The entire rear upper flat was gutted by the fire. The entire front section suffered damage to some portion of the ceiling, upper roof area and heavy sot and heat damage as well as heavy water damage throughout the structure. The investigation is underway. We didn’t have any problem on executing our duty. We had problems coming here due to the time of day, heavily traffic. It took us a little over 4 minutes.
