Fisherman fined for undersized conch

Fifty-nine year old Honduran fisherman Pablo Castillo must pay a total of $1,730 in fines handed down by Magistrate Dale Cayetano, after he pleaded guilty to possession of 41 undersized conch.

Mr Castillo was given until January 31, 2015 to pay. If he defaults on payment he will serve 6 months in prison.

Pablo Castillo was found with the conch around 7:30 a.m. on October 7, when he went to Northern Fishermen Cooperative on North Front Street, Belize City,  and a fisheries officer saw him with them.

Pablo Castillo was fined $500 for the possession fine, and $30 for each conch, which amounted to $1,230.
