Former accused rapist faces another rape charge

In March of 2014, now 45 year old Vanzie Lamb, a laborer of  Barracat Street in Belize City, was acquitted of a charge of rape of a 14 year old female minor, originally from Punta Gorda, in May of 2009, while she was visiting Belize City for a party.

Now he has been arrested for a similar incident reported on Boxing Day, December 26.

The complainant is a 22 year old woman who told police that around12:30 in the morning she was walking on Antelope Street Extension, Belize City,  when in front of the division office for Collet representative and Minister of Education Patrick Faber, she met a man who grabbed her hair and forced her at knifepoint onto his silver and purple female beach cruiser bicycle. The assailant threatened to kill her if she did not have sexual intercourse with him, and then took her to an abandoned house on Barracat Street, where he forced himself on her.

In court, Vanzie Lamb, who did not give a plea as the offence is to be tried on indictment if proven, admitted that he took the woman to his house, but insisted that any intercourse between them was consensual, and that the woman is a friend of his.

Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer declined to offer bail, upholding the objection of prosecutors that Vanzie Lamb has been charged with a similar offence and has a criminal record. He was taken to prison and will return to court on February 23.
