2 Belizean residents were arraigned in court for allegedly hiding 2 Cuban Nationals who entered Belize illegally.
The two Cubans are 29 year-old Jolkies Guerra and 27 year-old Jaima Aldana.
Police intercepted the Cubans in a car and, after questioning, they admitted to police that they entered Belize illegally through the Mopan River and got the vehicle from 2 facilitators. Those two facilitators were identified as 50 year-old Belizean mechanic Lewellyn Ramclam and 49 year-old Cuban national Alberto Quintana, who is a Belizean resident.
The two Cubans were charged with illegal entry, while Ramclam and Quintana were charged with 2 counts of aiding a person to remain in Belize illegally.
The two illegal aliens pleaded guilty to the offence, but Guerra and Aldana pleaded not guilty to aiding the Cubans.
The Cubans were sentenced to pay a fine of $1,000 forthwith. If they don’t pay the fine, they will have to serve 6 months in jail, and after paying the fine or serving the jail sentence, they will be deported to Cuba.
The accused facilitators, Ramclam and Quintana, were both offered bail of $1,000 and are to return to court on January 27, 2015.
