One man has been arrested and charged for Tuesday’s burglary at an apartment complex on Campos Avenue in Belize City. Last night we told you that an apartment complex on Campos Avenue in Belize City saw several apartments burglarized; and in one of those cases, someone was at home at the time of the invasion. On Tuesday August 7th, sometime around 4:30 p.m., 42 year old Rosa Zorilla, a Cuban national, was inside her apartment, number 7. She says someone knocked on her door that afternoon and upon opening the door, two male persons with bandanas over their faces and armed with what appeared to be a 9 mm handguns, entered her apartment. They stole several valuable items from Zorilla before proceeding to burglarize three other apartments adjacent to Zorilla’s. Inspector Alejandro Cowo tells us that police have since arrested and charged 34 year old Frank Smith with one count of Aggravated Burglary and one count of Burglary.
Alejandro Cowo, O.C. of N.C.I.B: On the 27th of August 2018, just after 5:30 police responded to an aggravated burglary at apartment number 7, located on Campus Avenue. Upon arrival, police met a female person by the name of Rosa Soria. She was suffering from cut wound to the head. What she had mentioned to the police on that date was that she was inside of the apartment when she heard someone knocking at the door. She went and opened the door, that was when two male persons entered the room. And as a result, one of the male persons began to hit her with a firearm to her head, causing the injuries. At the same time, the other person took the advantage and stole several valuable things from her including jewelries, laptop and other household items. Upon police checking the scene, they also observed that three other apartments adjacent to that one were burglarized and stolen therefrom were different items of other persons who were not in the building at the time. Police quick response to the report led to the detention of a person by the name of Frank Smith. He was detained somewhere in the jungle area, where police conducted a search on him and they found several items that were later identified as the property of Ms. Rosa Soria. Not all the items that have been reported as missing so far has been recovered by police.
Cowo says that police are seeking a second male suspect who is unknown to them at this time.
