A vegetable and fruit stand was robbed in Dangriga during the Garifuna Settlement Day celebrations. The owners of the Food Stand, Emid Correa and his wife , travel from Belmopan to Dangriga every market day to sell their fruits and vegetables at the market. This has been the second time that such an incident has occurred. Correa, owner of the establishment, told us when they found out their shop had been burglarized and what had been stolen.
Emid Correa, Owner, Food Stand: It had been burglarized 2 times. First I find it out on Wednesday. When I came 2 o’clock in the morning and secondly the 19th, so they came in 2 times this week. I find out the 18th and the 19th they came back. This includes 100 pounds of cabbage, 150 pounds of beans, my fan, about 4 head of lettuce, about 8 pounds of cilantro which is very expensive now, sweet pepper, 17 pounds total, and cauliflower for the first time.
Reporter: Okay so how much would you say this valued? Over what?
Emid Correa, Owner, Food Stand: It’s over $1,100, that’s the total of everything.
Correa also believes that the people who are robbing their establishment, are the same manual laborers that help to build the market complex. The police have told Correa that they will send police officers to investigate but up until the time of this report, none has come to his aid.
