We have told you about the IMF report that suggests that Government of Belize will most likely need to increase taxes and execute retrenchment programs to try and alleviate the financial difficulties it is facing. We don’t know if it was a tax increase that caused a steep increase in the cost of fuel at the pumps at 12 o’clock this morning but in Belmopan, the price of premium went up from $9.95 per gallon to $10.48. That’s a whopping 53 cents a gallon increase. The price of Kerosene also went up by thirty cents. For the time being, Regular and Diesel prices remain the same. There has been no official statement from the Ministry of Finance regarding the price increase or the reason for it.
