Gay partners in domestic dispute

2vlcsnap-2016-08-22-14h09m24s293 year old Justin Arnold of Sandhill village has been accused of domestic assault on his gay partner; a male 16 years older than Arnold with whom he has been in a homosexual relationship for 6 months. This case was brought to court just one week after last week Wednesday’s landmark decision by Chief Justice Kenneth Benjamin to remove criminal sanctions from adults consenting to sexual acts “against the order of nature” in private. According to 39 year old Noel Garcia, on Wednesday at about 9 p.m. at the residence they share in Belize City, Arnold asked Garcia to assist with taking down a door, but Garcia said he was tired. An annoyed Arnold threatened to “deal with him later,” and slapped him on the left side of his face. The older man said he feared for his life and decided to report the matter to police and request court action against his gay lover. Arnold pleaded not guilty to a charge of common assault before Magistrate Carlon Mendoza and was offered bail of 500 dollars; however, he was not able to meet it and has been remanded to the Central Prison until his next court appearance.
