22 year old Gian Espadas was arraigned on charge of drug trafficking on Tuesday . Police arrested Espadas on Monday morning when members of the Mobile Interdiction Team were conducting routine mobile patrol on north side Belize City in the West Landivar area. They stopped a gold Kia spectra which Espadas was driving and they conducted a search on the vehicle where they found about 27 pounds of weed. When he appeared in court yesterday, Espadas pled not guilty to the charge and was released on bail of $8000 . Espadas had been in trouble with the law just the week before when he and Minister Castro’s sons were intercepted in the north as they had 89 cases of contraband beer in their possession. Espadas, along with the Castro brothers, had settled that matter with customs out of court. At yesterday’s drug trafficking arraignment, Espadas had to hand over his passport and agree not to leave the country without the court’s permission. The case was adjourned until September 1st.
