In late July 2011, a Belize City man was allegedly busted with 2 live rounds of 9 mm ammunitions inside his bedroom. He was charged with kept ammunition without gun license and remanded to the Belize Central Prison for 90 days. But tonight, 22-year-old Gilberto Augustus Welcome is a free man after he was acquitted of the serious firearm related offense in the courtroom of Dale Cayetano late yesterday evening. His acquittal came with the assistance of attorney, Bryan Neal who made submissions to the court regarding the testimony of the arresting officer. That officer told the court that the bullets showed to him were not the same ones he had placed his initials on back in 2011. Magistrate Cayetano then accepted Neal’s no case submission on behalf of his client and acquitted the defendant. Welcome was looking at 5 years minimum behind bars if convicted of the offense.
