vlcsnap-2013-12-11-20h38m30s220It was a very wet day in the City today, but that did not stop the students of Grace Primary School from spreading Christmas cheer. We observed their procession and spoke to their teacher.

Reporter:  “Mom, tell us what is happening”.

Miss Azueta: We are making our usual trip to the Children’s home down the street, Hands in Hands.  They are taking food and gifts and they have planned a program to entertain them”.

Reporter:  “Is this basically being done every year?”

Miss Azueta: “Every year”.

Reporter:  “So, what is the children’s participation in it?”

Miss Azueta: “They either go do a dance or skit and each have contributed to the gifts and the food”.

Reporter:  “What is the objective of that?”

Miss Azueta: “So that they learn that Christmas is not about receiving; it’s about giving and making others happy”.

Two students told us of their motivation for spreading the joy of Christmas.

Student:  “Good”.

Reporter:  “I see you are dressed up like Santa.  What is about Christmas you like in terms of giving?”

Student:  “Well, helping others who need it and thus, being kind and helpful to those who need”.

Female Student:  “It’s kind of exciting just to know that we are helping the little children at the Children’s Home who don’t really have parents and parents that they don’t really know.  So, that is kind of exciting”.
