“Green Laws” training for law enforcement officers

Forty-two law enforcement officers, representing the Police Department, Forest Department and its partners, participated in a “Green Laws” training at the Tropical Education Centre last week. The two-day training is  the first in a series of training targeting key law enforcement officials to become versed in the Laws of Belize relating to Forestry and wildlife. Chief Forest Officer Wilber Sabido said that apart from the officers learning about the offences and penalties prescribed under the laws, the trainings also offer officers opportunities to identify much needed legislative revisions and to discuss appropriate legal approaches to address forest illegalities. The Forest Department aims to train over 200 law enforcement officials in “Green Laws” by the end of this year.
