On Monday we told you that the Guatemalan Government has decided to suspend the simultaneous referendum that was scheduled for October 6 between Belize and Guatemala. Guatemala’s Foreign Minister Luis Fernando Carrera Castro, told local media Monday that a letter has been sent to the Legislature explaining the decision. He emphasized though, that the dialogue will continue with Belizean authorities and representatives of the Organization of American States. On Monday, the Prensa Libre reported that Guatemala will hold its referendum next year, October 6th, considering that there are no conditions which will hinder a positive result. According to the news site, the OAS has been made aware of this decision.
