Guatemalan farmer jailed after being caught in the Chiquibul Forest with unlicensed weapons

vlcsnap-2013-05-16-20h05m08s219A Guatemalan farmer will spend the next few years in a Belizean jail cell, after he was caught in the Chiquibul Forest with unlicensed weapons. 55 year old Salome Ramirez, was one of two men who tried to flee from Belizean authorities on Tuesday night; he, along with another man were with three horses when officers attached to the Special Patrol Units and FCD park rangers, ordered them to stop. The men took off on foot into some bushes, but Ramirez was later captured. He vlcsnap-2013-05-16-20h05m19s59had a rifle on his shoulder and  live rounds of ammo in his front pocket. Ramirez was charged for keeping firearm without a gun license and keeping ammunition without a gun license. In the San Ignacio Magistrate Court yesterday, he plead guilty for both offences and was sentenced to five years for each offence. Salome Ramirez is a farmer of Dolores Peten.
