A Guatemalan man was found murdered, execution style, on the Coastal Road. On Monday afternoon, an overturned vehicle was discovered near White Bridge area on the Coastal Road, Stann Creek District. Police say the Ford Explorer had its 4 wheels in the air. Beside it, was the body of 39 year old Guatemalan Edwardo Samuel Caal with a gunshot wound to his forehead. We spoke to Officer in charge of Dangriga Police Station, Sr. Spt. Ralph Moody.
Ralph Moody, Officer in Charge of Dangriga Police: On arriving at the location, we saw a Ford Explorer vehicle involved in the accident, four wheels turned up and a Hispanic male person beside the said vehicle. On examination of the body, it revealed that it was Edwardo Caal, who suffered one gunshot wound to the head. The scene was processed and the body was transported to the Dangriga Hospital.
Ralph Moody, Officer in Charge of Dangriga Police: We also in our custody the car that was taken away from Mister Edwardo and was found about 10 miles away from La Democracia. The vehicle was picked up last night and was taken to the Hattieville police station and was processed this morning.
Police say they are looking for four suspects as they believe that Caal came across men who were escaping after robbing a store in Silk Grass Village earlier that morning at about 11 o’clock. The robbery in silk grass was at a store where 4 men made off with about $500 from a store and escaped in a gold Ford Explorer. When the robbers overturned on the Coastal Road, the good Samaritan that stopped to render aid became their new target
Ralph Moody, Officer in Charge of Dangriga Police: We don’t have the information as to what happened we just suggest that Mister Edwardo was passing by and saw the accident, we believe that he stopped to offer assistance, the evidence supports it but we just suspected that. During his stop he was held up and his car was taken away. I must say that the suspect in this case is also suspect in a robbery at Silk Grass. We have very good evidence that is assisting us in that robbery.
Police say they are sure he was just an innocent party at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Ralph Moody, Officer in Charge of Dangriga Police: He was employed by a business establishment on the coastal road. He left to look for a brother and I believe he saw the accident and stopped, he had nothing to do with the accident. He’s just a person who passed by. It’s unfortunate that this incident happened.
Caal was a resident of Hope Creek, Stann Creek . This has been the first reported murder in the Dangriga area for 2017.
