Guatemalans Busted for Drug Trafficking in Belize

A taxi man was busted with weed  on Wednesday, May 20th. Five persons, three men and two women, were inside the taxi at the time of the bust and were arrested and charged for drug trafficking.

According to San Ignacio Police, the arrest was as a result of  a joint operation between members of the MIT, EDU personnel and the Canine Unit

“Sometime around 3:30 a. m., they were conducting a BCP at vlcsnap-2014-05-21-21h58m22s16Mile 68 on the George Price Highway when they stopped a golden Geo PRIZM taxi bearing Benque Viejo license plates.  At the time, the vehicle was occupied by three male persons and two females.  A search on the trunk of the said car, police found a white in colour crocus sack, containing inside of it, a black plastic bag with 11 parcels with a green leafy substance suspected to be cannabis.  All persons who were informed of the offense were escorted to the San Ignacio police station where the drug was weighed in their presence and amounted to 8,164.7 grams of cannabis.  Persons were arrested and charged for the offense of drug trafficking and were arraigned yesterday at the San Ignacio magistrate’s court”.

The people in question are 63 year old Jose Roca, Naturalized Belizean, Taxi Driver of Arenal Village; 35 year old Francisco Martinez, Guatemalan Labourer of Melchor de Mencos, Guatemala; 23 year old Vicente Rosalez, Guatemalan Labourer of Arenal; 23 year old Anna Galdamez, Guatemalan domestic of Cotton Tree Village; and Maria Trinidad, Guatemalan Domestic of Arenal.
