Yesterday Monday February 1, we told you about the traffic accident that occurred on the George Price Highway just outside Hattieville. Police have issued more information on the accident which happened just before 4 p.m. between miles 17 and 18 on the George Price Highway. The incident involved a grey two-door extended cab, Ford 150 pick-up truck which was driven at the time by 47-year-old Egbert Ferguson of Hattieville Village. Travelling in the pickup truck with Ferguson was 44-year-old Daisy Olivera of Belize City and two minors. The other vehicle involved in the accident was a passenger van driven at the time by 22 year old Mr. Rogelio Reyes of Frank Eddy Village, Cayo District. Police say he was transferring 9 French tourists. Police reports to the media state that their initial investigation reveals that upon reaching between miles 17 and 18 on the George Price Highway the pick-up truck travelling in the opposite direction swerved into the left lane and collided head-on into the van causing injuries to the tourists. Today we learned that the driver of the pickup truck, Egbert Ferguson, died early this morning due to a broken spine and internal injuries. Paul Ferguson is the brother of the diseased and he disputes vehemently the police report on how the accident happened. Sherrie Ferguson is the wife of Egbert, with whom he had 15 children, one deceased. She says that though he was in a terrible condition, there was still hope when the doctors first spoke to her. But some time during the night, things turned for the worse. Paul says the entire ordeal has been hard on the family. He believes that the treatment given to his brother was not the same as the ones given to the tourists. All person involved were transported to KHMH, treated and released. Police say Emilie Siman is still listed in a critical condition.
