“The home of 88 year old Dimples Westby who lived alone and was confined to a wheelchair was burglarized early this morning at about 2:30 while she was watching television. Police here told Love News that they responded to a burglary in progress at number 769 Sibun Street this morning and upon arrival they observed the front door of this concrete bungalow house opened and also noticed the lights in the house were turned on. Furthermore they observed a male person inside the house with a black mask on his face standing in front of the senior citizen. They reported that the intruder was armed with a knife in his left hand extended toward Westby who was visibly in fear. The intruder who made attempts to enter the house through windows stomped down the door and while inside he searched the house for money while Westby screamed for help. Police’s quick response stopped the intruder and the perpetrator was ordered to place the knife on the floor three times but he refused. Instead he confronted the police with the knife and that was when PC Garcia fired a single gunshot from his issued revolver which caught the intruder on the right side of his chest. He was later identified as 43-year-old, Brian Taylor of an AB Ogaldez Street address. Taylor was transported to the Southern Regional Hospital where his condition is stable and is under police guard. Fortunately Westby was not physically hurt and the residents of this municipality take the opportunity in commending the officers of the Dangriga Police Department while the police department also expresses their gratitude to the residents who assisted in resolving this latest home invasion.”
