A growing concern is the number of incidents involving police officers, after two this week in Placencia and Ladyville.  At yesterday’s press briefing held at Independence Hall, PUP leader Francis Fonseca commented on the state of affairs.

“On the recent police shootings, yes, yes, we are all very disheartened.   Whenever there are these police killings…we started the year with very horrendous that some in the community was affected.  Some still believe that the police were involved…am….we don’t know, but these things only lead to an erosion of confidence and trust in the Belize Police Department; something we don’t want because  we all support our Belize Police Department; we want them to be successful, to be effective; so, everything has to be done to ensure that there is a strong level of trust and confidence and that is built between the citizenry and the Belize Police Department”.

And in cases such as these, Fonseca urged the Police Department to embark on immediate and transparent investigations and to provide the public with satisfactory answers.
