Husband accused of attempted murder of wife

A husband is facing charges for the attempted murder of his wife. 36-year-old Maria Pech, a housewife of Santa Clara village, Corozal District, reported that on Monday June 15 at about 7:30p.m. she was in her back yard when her husband Joel Pech assaulted her with a machete.  He dragged Maria by her hair and locked her inside the kitchen where he allegedly threw kerosene on her and tried to set her on fire. Somehow, Maria managed to escape and washed off some of the kerosene.  After a medical examination, doctors classified her injuries as “Harm.” Police have since detained 34-year-old Joel Pech of Santa Clara Village, Corozal District, pending investigation of attempted murder and other charges.
