After several years of telethons and fundraising, the Inspiration Center opened today to great acclaim. It is intended to be an integrated, community based program for disabled and disadvantaged children and adolescents from especially poor areas of Belize.
After a year and few months of construction, Special Envoy for Women and Children Kim Simplis Barrow told this morning’s audience that the real work now begins, of making it into a true home.
Two Inspiration Telethons in 2012 and 2013 raised some $1.5 million, much of which was donated by the Government of Belize.
The single largest donor was the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) with $400,000 including equipment. A donor monument, in honor of sponsors who donated over $25,000 was also unveiled at the ceremony.
First and foremost on the wall is the People of Belize for their overwhelming support of the two Inspiration Telethons. In another show of appreciation, certificates were presented to donors who contributed over $10,000. The Center is located at Mile 2 on the Philip Goldson Highway.
