Is weekend ambush murder fallout from gang violence?

23 year old Michael Wallace of Belize City, a reported affiliate of the Southside Gangsters, met his untimely end this weekend in a scene straight out of Hollywood: a highway ambush between warring factions involving several firearms and multiple vehicles. It started as Wallace and others were were returning from the Central Prison after having attended a day that the institution was hosting. Officer Commanding Eastern Division (Rural), ACP Edward Broaster, picks it up from there:

ACP Edward Broaster, Officer Commanding Easter Division (Rural): On Saturday around 2 or little after 2, we had a white Nissan Altima that was leaving prison carrying Richard Wallace, Michael Wallace and Edward Flowers to Belize City. Upon reaching around miles 9 thereabout, a blue blazer pulled in front of them and an infinity pulled behind them and started firing shots at them. Richard Wallace aborted the vehicle and ran. The Blue Blazer knocked him down but he managed to get up and ran whilst Edward Flowers made good his escape. vlcsnap-2016-05-31-10h57m47s223Michael Wallace received gunshot wound to his head and to his body. The occupants of the Blue Blazer fled from out the Blazer which was eventually found in the homeland memorial park area in front of Procer and the Altima ended up in the bushes about thirty feet on the opposite side of the highway. The Infinity turned around and attempted to head back to Hattiville when it ran off the road and the occupants exited the vehicle. We believe that there was a fourth vehicle involved which picked up the suspects from both the Infinity and the Blue Blazer. We have a suspect in custody who was taken off the bus in Belize City and we believe that he’s a significant person of interest in this matter that we’re investigating.

According to ACP Broaster information as to the direction of where the two ambush vehicles came from is uncertain as this time since none of the victims of the shooting are willing to cooperate with investigators. Police say Wallace may be linked to the April 16th murder of the reputed gang boss of George Street, Gerald ‘Shiny’ Tillett and it is believed that Michael Wallace’s murder was in retaliation for the death of the late Gerald Tillett, though Police would not go into details.
