Football fans will be glad to hear that there is to be a complete face lift of the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan. According to the Belmopan Area Representative, the contract for the project has been awarded to an architecture firm and the design phase of the project is soon to commence.
‘The actual physical work has not started yet, but I can tell you that as of today, the engineering and designing of what the Isidoro Beaton is going to look like, is going to commence. A couple of weeks ago, firms were invited to tend for the design face”.
Reporter: “As I understood, there were three architecture firms that were invited to apply for the contract. Why these specific three?”
Hon. John Saldivar: “That is a matter for B.I.L. which is The Belize Infrastructure Limited. They shortlisted the persons that have been invited, and that is normally done when they want to move quicker and don’t have to go through the process of announcing and advertising and all of that. Also, when you know exactly what it is you can get from these firms- they pre- qualify, you know their experience and the skills that they have, etc. So, you invite the three that you know, are fully qualified”.
The design phase of the project is expected to take about 60 days to completion after which the actual construction phase will commence. Hon. Saldivar detailed what sort of work will go into the stadium.
Hon. John Saldivar: “In the phase, you are going to see the construction of the perimeter fence, which we only have one side if you know the football field, has a cement fence. We are going to be putting cement fence on the other three sides of the field. We are also going to be doing a new inner fence, which is the fence required by FIFA that should be around the football field itself. We are also going to be putting bleachers almost around the entire football field similar to the ones that I just put about a month ago out there; plus new bathrooms, Locker Room facilities, Changing Rooms, facilities for the referees, a V.I.P. Room and even a Media Room for those who wish to cover the games”.
If all goes according to plans, work at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium should commence in the early weeks of April.
