Ismail Omar Shabazz Dies

vlcsnap-2014-06-10-20h37m32s34One of Belize’s best historians and thinkers, the legendary Ismail Omar Shabazz, passed away earlier today.

Shabaz, born on December 8th, 1937, was one of the earliest writers and publishers of the Amandala Newspaper.

He is one of the founders of the United Black Association for Development- UBAD as well as the founder of the Belize Rural Economic Development of Agriculture through Alliance (BREDAA), In 1963, he along with the late Ibraheim Abdulah better known as “Justice” was one of the founders of More Tomorrow Village in the Cayo District.

Shabazz remained an ardent Belizean nationalist and Muslim who has championed Belizean causes for more than 50 years.
