Yesterday we told you about Jack Charles’ press release where copies of lab test reports were furnished the media. Those lab reports indicated, the Aflatoxin levels of local rice which Charles says indicated levels higher than the standards set by the Bureau of Standards. The Belize Bureau of Standards in consultation with the Belize Agricultural Health Authority and the Ministry of Health issued a response to Jack Charles claims; saying that Mr. Charles is not recognized as a competent authority to conduct testing of any basic food item in Belize. Today, Charles made a sttemtn in which he said that the Belizean Consumer has a right to know and , “The public should have access to the testing done by the authorities that guarantees the products are meeting the required standards on a semi annual basis. The public should demand from the relevant authorities the latest test results before the gazetting of the rice standard”.
