Jaime Chavarria murdered in Belize City

Belize City police are investigating the late night shooting of 26 year old West Canal resident Jaime Emmanuel Chavarria, who had been shot three times to the head and back while he walking through a dark unnamed alley off Berkeley Street around 7:10 Monday night. Police say Chavarria was a recent shooting victim and had ties to the area but are not clear as to why he was targeted this time. We hear from Superintendent of Police in charge of criminal investigation Hilberto Romero.

“On Monday 30th March, 2015, around 7:10 p.m., police personnel visited an alley off Berkeley Street where they found the motionless body of Jamie Chavarria, twenty-six years with apparent gunshot wounds to the head and to the back. The scene was processed; he was transported to the K.H.M.H. where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”

“What do police know at this time of his actual shooting?”

Supt. Hilberto Romero
“We have our investigators on the ground. They are re-canvassing the area thoroughly. This is a dark alley in that area and the only information is that he was travelling through that alley to go and purchase an item and thereafter 3 gunshots were heard in that immediate area and thereafter his body was found. He had been shot previously. He had made a statement and no one was charged for that case and again, he was targeted last night.”

“Sir, we understand that he is well known to police. He has been charged in the pass for criminal activity. Can you talk to us about that?”

Supt. Hilberto Romero

“He has been charged before. He was the subject of  other investigations that  we have dealt with, in particular, of a murder some years back at the Hall-over Bridge area.”

Journalist

“Any motive behind this incident?”

Supt. Hilberto Romero

“Well we have no conclusive motive at this time. We are working on it. Like I mentioned, no one had been charged for that particular shooting. So far we have no one detained for this muder.”
