The man accused of shooting and killing 21 year old Omar Barahona was arraigned in the Belmopan court this afternoon. He is identified as 24 year old Jeremy Parham. He appeared before Magistrate Ladonna John where he was read three charges: the “murder” of Omar Barahona, “use of deadly means of harm” and “wounding” of Devin Brooks. No plea was taken in the matter since it is an indictable offense. Barahona was shot and killed in Cotton Tree Village on Saturday night as he and friends socialized outside a farewell party that was being held in his honor since Barahona was heading off for a new job and a new life in the United States. Barahona was shot multiple times and died on the spot while his friend, 20-year-old Devon Brooks, was shot to the leg. The gunman just walked up to the friends and opened fire. Police say they believe that it was a case of mistaken identity. Parham appeared unrepresented in court today and was remanded to prison until August 30th.
