Police were called out to Turton Lane where, upon their arrival, they observed motionless body of a male person lying face down with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. The person was later identified as Jermaine Curtis Hyde, 36-year-old Belizean of a Hattiville address. Up to now the investigation has shown that Mr. Hyde had just left from the tacos stand which is located at the swing bridge and was heading towards Turton lane when he was suddenly approached by an unknown person who fired one single shot at him causing fatal injuries. Up to now we do not have anything to point to, to say that he belonged to a gang or that he was involved in any illegal activities that may have contributed to his death.

Hyde was a Bus Terminal employee of Hattieville Village and police say he was not known to them as person who has had any run ins with the law. They are unsure of what the motive is at this time and have no suspects as yet.

As to the motive, up to now it is uncertain and unknown to us at this moment. We know that he does not live here in Belize city. Normally he only stays here in Belize City when he is working early in the morning but that night we cannot tell you up to now if he was working or not. But we knew that he had just left from the tacos place which he had been and that is the road that he had normally taken when he goes to certain locations.

Police say they are looking at footage from surveillance cameras in the area.
