Joseph Budna Escapes from Guatemalan Hospital While in Custody

vlcsnap-2014-04-22-21h53m00s37vlcsnap-2014-04-22-21h51m51s130Guatemalan newspaper, La Prensa Libre, is reporting that Joseph Budna, Belizean National, who was serving time at the Guatemalan prison escaped while he was being treated at a local medical hospital.

Joseph Budna is no stranger to the media as, while living in Belize, he built up quite a reputation as a free lance journalist always in the middle of some kind of trouble or near death encounter.

After Budna alleged police violations in 2011 he migrated to Guatemala, but his troubles did not end there. He was arrested in 2012 and was found guilty of kidnapping and extortion last year.

Budna was since convicted and sentenced to serve 25 years in prison at Los Jocotes, in Zacapa, Guatemala which he has been serving since October 16, 2012.

On the 11th of this month, Joseph Budna was enlisted at a local hospital in Zacapa. Prensa libre, reports that early on Monday morning, Budna slipped away from the police authorities and has not been recaptured since. The two police officers, ages 19 and 25, under whose watch Budna escaped from, have been taken into custody.
