The Wheels of Justice turn very slowly in Belize and convictions are a rarity but one family has some sense of closure today as the two men accused of killing their loved one were given hefty jail sentences. Today, Donovan Casildo was sentenced to life imprisonment for the 2011 murder of 39 year old Sylvan Roberts. His partner in crime, Brian Clarke, was sentenced to 18 years in prison. Roberts, a well known medical technician, was killed in front of his wife and two daughters during a home invasion in Santa Elena shortly before Christmas 2011. While the men ended a life, they didn’t get away with much money or possessions. Late last year, the two accused men were found guilty, but sentencing was today in the Supreme court in Belmopan. While Casildo was sentenced to life, he has the possibility of parole after 25 years. Brian Clarke was only 16 years old at the time of his arrest for Robert’s murder.
