Man drowned, alcohol may have been a factor

A 29 year old Belizean labourer of Long Bank Area Dangriga Town was found floating in the Old Belize River near the banks of White Swan, Hope Creek Village on Tuesday July 22nd apparently dead. According to police investigations, 29 year old Roque Magdaleno Sanchez Jr.  left his house on Monday July 21st around 6:00 pm and returned on Tuesday July 22nd at around 5:45 am under the influence of alcohol. He then reportedly grabbed his backpack and headed out, stating that he was going to work at Long Bank. Police report that he was found faced down in the water wearing a white polo shirt, long black trousers and without any footwear. Attached to his back was a white, orange and blue bag containing one empty Clorox gallon and a plastic food container. The body was taken to the Southern regional hospital where it was pronounced dead on arrival. Police say there were no signs of violence on the body. A post-mortem certified the cause of death as drowning.
