A 37 year old Belize City Woodworker drowned while travelling by boat to St. George’s Caye this afternoon. According to police reports, 37 year old David Alfonso Alamilla was a part of a group of workers who were travelling from Bella vista en route to St. George’s Caye in a 32 feet boat that was loaded with lumber and towing a 26 feet skiff. Upon reaching about 1/2 mile away from Moho Caye, water entered the boat through a side door that was open causing the boat to submerge. While Alamilla was assisting a colleague who encountered difficulties in the sea, he drifted away and apparently drowned. Police say the matter is under investigation while the body of Alamilla awaits a postmortem examination.
