There was a road traffic accident early Friday morning on the Hummingbird Highway, and one man has been left hospitalized in a serious condition as a result.
According to police reports, 23 year old Oscar Mehia, a resident of Armenia village, was flung out of a vehicle which experienced a tire blow out. The incident happened at around 7 o’clock Friday morning when 30 year old Pedro Barrido, resident of Armentia village, was driving his pickup from Armenia to Belmopan. Along with Mr Barrido at the time were Oscar Mehia and a 13 year old boy.
Police say that Pedro Barrido reported that after the tire blew out on a curve between miles 50 and 51, he lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle flipped before landing back on its wheels.
Oscar Mehia was flung from the vehicle during the ordeal and landed on the side of a road in a ditch. He received severe head and body injuries and was rushed to the Western Regional Hospital. Due to the severity of his injuries, Mr Mehia was then transferred to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City.
The driver and the other 13 year old passenger received minor injuries.
