Dinsdale Thompson – Officer in Charge of San Ignacio Police Department
“Sometime around 9:10 p.m., Friday evening, we received a report that there was an accident in the village of Esperanza. Upon our arrival at the scene, we found that there had been an accident. At the time both the vehicle and the victim had been driven over to the La Loma Luz Hospital. We understood that that it is a red Silverado pickup truck which was involved in the accident. At this present moment, we are still investigating. We have indeed the pickup which was involved in the accident, here at the station. We are continuing our investigation. At the Hospital, our officers have found out that the individual, who was reportedly knocked down by this Silverado pickup truck, was taken to the La Loma Luz hospital, where he was pronounced dead by Doctor Lazo.”
The driver of the vehicle, identified as 46 year old Imer Hernandez, did stop to render assistance.
“The same individual, who we believe was involved in knocking down the victim, then picked up the individual, along with the vicim’s brother, took him over to La Loma Luz Hospital. So that is the area where our investigation is going on, at this present moment.”
Police say that Imer Hernandez was travelling from the direction of Belmopan City to San Ignacio Town when a vehicle that was heading the opposite direction with its high beam on passed him and caused Hernandez to hit Montero. Imer Hernandez was detained and a Notice of Intended Prosecution was issued to him and the vehicle impounded.
