Man remanded for stealing $177,000 worth of BEL equipment

Santiago Padilla was arraigned in court on Wednesday for theft. The value of the items stolen is over 177 thousand dollars. According to reports,  between February and April of this year, Padilla allegedly stole 3,033 light meters from Belize Electricity Ltd, valued at $177,000 dollars. It is alleged that he tampered with them and opened them up, removing the valuable parts from inside. When he appeared in court, no plea was taken and Padilla was denied bail since it has not yet been decided if the offence will be tried summarily or on indictment.
