There was a murder on King Street in Belize City on Wednesday evening around 6 p.m. It happened at Teddy’s Music and DVD Rental and the victim has been identified as 36-year-old Jermaine Franklin of Belize City. Police already have a suspect in custody. ASP Alejandro Cowo, Officer in charge of CIB Eastern Division, told us more.
ASP Alejandro Cowo, OC CIB Eastern Divison: Police responded to shots fired on King Street, as a result they visited the location at 16 King Street which is in front of Teddy’s DVD Music and Rental, where they observed a male person lying motionless on the pavement. The person was identified as Jermaine Franklin of a Faber’s Road address. He was seen with several gunshot wounds to the body. He was taken to the KHMH where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The shooting took place inside of the establishment and outside of the establishment, on both locations. The person was inside of the DVD shop where the suspect came in, fired some shots at him and then he chased the person outside of the store. Well we have interviewed the suspect a while ago and the motive is something personal. We do not believe it is gang related at this time.
Franklin was shot several times to the back. Police say that as far as they know, Frankiln had no police record and so far the motive seems to be a personal matter.
