Nearly one year ago, 29 year old Darren Levi Gillett, a Construction Worker of Racoon Street, Belize City was accused of a vicious attack on a police officer who was robbed and beaten on the side of the road as he tried to fix a flat tire. Today he was told he would stand trial in the Supreme Court for attempted murder. An unrepresented Gillett was committed by Chief Magistrate Ann-Marie Smith at a preliminary inquiry this morning. Gillett is also accused of use of deadly means of harm and robbery. Police Constable Justin Mervin Hall was attacked and beaten with a gas tank and robbed of his valuables. Gillett is out on bail and makes his first Supreme Court appearance in October.
